King Charles and other British royals welcomed Donald Trump as he began his historic second state visit to Britain, marked by impressive ceremonies, tight security, technology investments, and protests. Trump and his wife Melania arrived at Windsor Castle, where they were greeted by Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate before a carriage procession through the grounds. A grand military flypast was planned as part of the largest ceremonial welcome for a state visit in recent memory.

Trump expressed his admiration for Britain, stating he loved the country. Prime Minister Keir Starmer aims to leverage this positive sentiment to strengthen the UK-U. S. “special relationship. ” His government seeks to boost economic ties, attract significant investments, discuss tariffs, and address issues like Ukraine and Israel with Trump. Major companies, including Microsoft and Google, have already pledged substantial investments in the UK related to AI and other sectors.

Starmer also intends to advance trade discussions, particularly addressing tariffs on steel, whisky, and salmon. Trump acknowledged the desire to refine their previous trade deal. However, Starmer faces challenges, as polls show Trump is not well-liked in Britain, and he himself is experiencing low approval ratings. The relationship between Trump and Jeffrey Epstein has raised concerns, particularly after Starmer dismissed an ambassador over Epstein ties. Recently, images of Trump and Epstein were projected onto one of Windsor Castle’s towers, resulting in several arrests by police.

Protests by the “Stop the Trump Coalition” are anticipated in London, where 1,600 police officers will manage demonstrations. Opinions among commuters are divided, with some protesting Trump’s invitation while others support it as a strategic political move. The royal welcome included Trump and Melania being greeted by Prince William and Kate, followed by a carriage procession with Charles and Camilla, as well as an inspection of troops in traditional uniforms.

Later in the day, the royals are set to show the Trumps U. S. historical items from the Royal Collection. The visit will culminate at St. George’s Chapel, where Trump will lay a wreath on Queen Elizabeth’s tomb. A military flypast featuring U. S. and UK jets will symbolize defense collaboration, followed by a lavish state banquet where both leaders will give speeches. For King Charles, the visit represents significant global attention, even though his views differ greatly from Trump’s. The following day, discussions will continue at Starmer’s Chequers residence, focusing on geopolitics.
