Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is visiting Papua New Guinea, where he plans to sign a defence treaty on Wednesday.

This agreement aims to strengthen ties with Papua New Guinea, elevating their relationship to a level similar to Australia’s security alliance with the United States. The signing coincides with Papua New Guinea’s 50th independence anniversary from Australia.

The treaty will enhance military cooperation and symbolise Papua New Guinea’s focus on the future. Additionally, Albanese will head to New York for the United Nations General Assembly and hopes to meet U. S. President Donald Trump, although no official meeting is arranged yet.
