Zelenskiy, Trump to Hold Critical Talks Sunday on Ukraine War Path

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will meet U. S. President Donald Trump in Florida to discuss territorial issues that are blocking peace talks to end the war in Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will meet U. S. President Donald Trump in Florida to discuss territorial issues that are blocking peace talks to end the war in Ukraine. Zelenskiy announced that significant decisions could be made before the New Year, as a peace framework and a security guarantee deal are close to being finalized. He noted that they would talk about the Donbas region and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, along with other important topics.

Zelenskiy expressed hope to reach an agreement on a peace framework with Trump, suggesting he would take it to a referendum in Ukraine if a ceasefire is achieved. Russia is demanding Ukraine to withdraw from areas in the eastern Donetsk region, while Kyiv wants to maintain the current battle lines. The U. S. has proposed a free economic zone if Ukraine agrees to leave those areas, though details are unclear. Zelenskiy stated that any territorial compromises should be decided by the Ukrainian people through a referendum.

Zelenskiy aims to clarify details during his meeting with Trump and discuss potential economic agreements. While he is uncertain if a deal will be signed during his visit, Ukraine remains open to it. He indicated that a security guarantee agreement with the U. S. is nearly finalized and a 20-point peace plan is 90% complete.

Moscow has not revealed which proposals it may accept. Although Russia’s foreign policy aide spoke with the Trump administration about peace, the Kremlin declined to comment further. Meanwhile, Russia continues to attack Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and intensifies assaults on key regions. Zelenskiy plans to discuss increasing pressure on Russia with Trump.
