The U. S. has been assisting Ukraine in launching long-range attacks on Russian energy facilities for several months, aiming to weaken Russia’s economy and push President Putin towards negotiations, according to the Financial Times. U. S. intelligence has helped Ukraine target significant Russian energy assets, including oil refineries located far from the frontline, as reported by unnamed Ukrainian and U. S. officials.
The White House, as well as Ukraine’s President Zelenskiy and foreign ministry, did not respond to requests for comments. The Kremlin has accused Washington and NATO of supplying consistent intelligence to Kyiv since the war began in February 2022. A Kremlin spokesperson highlighted the extensive support NATO and the U. S. provide for intelligence gathering.
The Financial Times stated that U. S. intelligence aids in planning and decision-making for Ukraine’s drone operations, allowing these drones to bypass Russian air defenses. Ukraine chooses the targets, and the U. S. provides information on their vulnerabilities. Additionally, U. S. officials mentioned that Washington is considering sending advanced missiles to Ukraine and has asked NATO allies for support. Zelenskiy also shared details of a productive discussion with U. S. President Trump about strengthening Ukraine’s air defense.
