Modern Diplomacy welcomes thoughtful, original, and well-researched contributions from academics, journalists, analysts, and practitioners with expertise in international affairs. We value informed perspectives, rigorous analysis, and engaging writing that bring clarity to complex global issues.

We focus on topics that align with our editorial mission to provide in-depth analysis of international relations and global trends. Contributors are encouraged to submit articles in the following areas:

Types of Contributions

We publish:

  • Analytical Articles – In-depth analysis of current events, policies, or trends.
  • Opinion Pieces – Strongly argued viewpoints backed by evidence.
  • Policy Briefs – Concise recommendations for decision-makers.
  • Interviews – Q&A with experts, leaders, or policymakers.

Length

  • Analytical Articles & Opinion Pieces: 1,000–1,500 words
  • Policy Briefs: 800–1,200 words
  • Book Reviews: 600–1,000 words

Format

  • Submit your manuscript in Word (.doc or .docx) format.
  • Use clear headings and subheadings for readability.
  • Include references or links to credible sources (in-text hyperlinks as we don’t accept footnotes).
  • Provide a short author bio (50–100 words) with your institutional affiliation and any relevant links.
  • Attach a headshot (optional but preferred).

Style

  • Clarity over jargon – Write for an informed but non-specialist audience.
  • Maintain a neutral and analytical tone for articles; opinion pieces may adopt a persuasive style, but must remain respectful and evidence-based.
  • Use British English spelling.
  • Don’t use footnotes; integrate key references into the main text.
  • Ensure all acronyms are spelled out on first use.

Ethical & Editorial Standards

  • Originality is mandatory – Submissions must be your own work and not previously published elsewhere.
  • No plagiarism – All pieces will be checked for originality; plagiarised work will be rejected outright.
  • No AI-generated content – We do not accept articles produced or substantially written by generative AI tools.
  • Fact-checking responsibility lies with the author; sources should be reputable and verifiable.
  • The editorial team reserves the right to edit for clarity, length, and style, while preserving the author’s voice.

  • We accept only unsolicited contributions.
  • No financial compensation is offered for submissions; publication is on a voluntary basis, with the aim of providing a respected platform for your analysis and ideas.
