Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday that Russia successfully tested a Poseidon nuclear-powered autonomous torpedo.
He described the test as a significant achievement, noting it could cause radioactive ocean swells that make coastal cities uninhabitable.
While details about the Poseidon are limited, Putin emphasized that for the first time, the weapon was launched from a submarine and its nuclear power unit was activated during the test.
He claimed the Poseidon is more powerful than Russia’s Sarmat intercontinental missile, known as Satan II. Recently, Putin also conducted a nuclear launch drill and reported testing the Burevestnik cruise missile, which he stated can overcome any defense system. He linked the development of these weapons to the U. S. missile defense program and NATO’s expansion.
