Trump Moves to Designate Antifa as a Terrorist Organization

U. S. President Donald Trump announced plans to take action against left-wing groups after the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. He stated that he would designate the antifa movement as a “terrorist organization” and called for investigations into those funding it. Experts noted that antifa lacks clear leadership, making such a designation legally uncertain.

Following formal charges against the suspect in Kirk’s assassination, doubts remained regarding any connection between the accused, Tyler Robinson, and outside groups, as well as uncertainties about his motives. Trump and officials have attributed hostility towards conservatives to left-wing organizations.

The White House is preparing an executive order addressing political violence and hate speech. Vice President JD Vance blamed left-wing radicalization for Kirk’s death, stating that funding networks for left-wing violence would be treated like terrorist organizations. Critics argue that Trump is using Kirk’s murder to challenge political opponents. Trump’s idea to designate antifa as a terrorist group first emerged in 2020, amidst nationwide protests.
