Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized to U. S. President Donald Trump in a phone call that Taiwan’s integration into China is crucial to the post-war international order. Xi reminded that both nations once fought against fascism and should now collaborate to uphold the results of World War Two. The White House confirmed the phone call but did not share specific details.
China views Taiwan as its territory and may use force to assert control, while Taiwan’s government insists that only its people can decide their future. Currently, China faces significant diplomatic tension with Japan after Japan’s Prime Minister suggested a military response to a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan.
During their call, Xi pointed out that relations between China and the U. S. have stabilized since their meeting in South Korea, where they discussed trade issues. Xi reiterated that cooperation is beneficial for both countries and discussed the war in Ukraine, urging all parties to seek peace and reduce differences.
