North Korean leader Kim Jong Un presided over a military parade showcasing the new Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile, reported state media KCNA.

This event, held to mark the 80th anniversary of the ruling Workers’ Party, took place in the presence of international dignitaries, including Chinese Premier Li Qiang, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, and Vietnam’s Communist Party chief, To Lam.

KCNA characterized the Hwasong-20 as North Korea’s “strongest nuclear strategic weapon system.” While this missile series can potentially target the U.S. mainland, concerns remain about its guidance accuracy and warhead re-entry capabilities.

Ankit Panda from the Carnegie Endowment suggested testing of the Hwasong-20 could occur before year-end, noting it may be designed for multiple warheads to challenge U.S. defenses. In his speech, Kim emphasized the valor of North Korean troops, expressing ambitions for military growth.

He also discussed strengthening ties with Russia during his meeting with Medvedev, affirming collaboration in achieving mutual goals.
