Seychelles presidential vote set for runoff

The Seychelles presidential election will go to a runoff between opposition leader Patrick Herminie and incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan, as no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the first round.

The Seychelles presidential election will go to a runoff between opposition leader Patrick Herminie and incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan, as no candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the first round.

Herminie, from the United Seychelles party, received 48.8%, while Ramkalawan, from the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa party, got 46.4%.

The runoff is set for October 9 to 11. The United Seychelles party also gained a strong position in the National Assembly, winning 15 constituency seats and four more through proportional representation, achieving a clear majority.

In comparison, the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa secured 11 constituency seats. Voter turnout for the first round was nearly 82%.
