Director Alex Woo pitched the animated Netflix film “In Your Dreams” to actor Simu Liu, who was intrigued by portraying a realistic family that argues. Liu emphasized that families are often shown unrealistically to children as always happy and without conflict, which isn’t true. He believes it’s important for kids to see imperfect families. “In Your Dreams” releases in theaters on Friday and is created by Sony Pictures Imageworks. Woo, who previously worked on Pixar films, leads the project.
The story follows siblings Stevie and Elliot on a quest to find The Sandman, who could magically save their parents’ marriage. The voice cast includes Emmy winner Cristin Milioti as Mom and Craig Robinson as the stuffed animal Baloney Tony. Milioti highlighted a duet with Liu as a special moment in the film. Stevie’s character must face the reality that there is no magical fix for life’s issues, illustrating that real families experience conflict and that solutions require more than just dreams. Life often doesn’t go as planned.
