Germany aims to actively discuss the use of Russian assets frozen in the EU, according to Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil.

He emphasized the need for careful examination of the situation and stated that Germany wants to facilitate solutions rather than obstruct them. The EU is exploring ways to utilize these assets to support Ukraine, especially given uncertainties about U. S. support.

Currently, the EU only benefits from interest on the frozen assets, which were locked after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Despite legal concerns about seizing them completely, Klingbeil affirmed his government’s commitment to finding ways to use these assets to assist Ukraine.
