The President of the Egyptian Republic “Abdel Fattah El-Sisi” participates in the opening session of the tenth ministerial meeting of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum, which was held on May 30, 2024 in the capital, Beijing, at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart “Xi Jinping”.
Through the summit of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, Egyptian President “El-Sisi” sends a message to the world to demonstrate the development achievements of the new Egyptian Republic in the economy, culture, society and other aspects, attract international investments, promote the development of Chinese-Egyptian cooperation, and then present a model for Chinese-Arab cooperation and development.
President “El-Sisi” also agrees with his Chinese counterpart “Xi Jinping”, during the 2024 China-Arab Cooperation Forum summit, to support adherence to multilateralism, and to oppose the policies being adopted by fighting imports under the pretext of protecting national production, which are being pursued by Western countries led by the United States, and to promote the construction of an open global economy, and the protection of international justice and fairness, with the aim of ensuring that all countries play their part, participate and benefit equally.
On January 1, 2024, the BRICS countries officially expanded their membership, and Arab countries including Egypt and the United Arab Emirates were invited to join. China and Arab countries jointly safeguard multilateralism under mechanisms such as the BRICS, the “Global South” and the United Nations, during the meeting of the leaders of the Arab countries and China. The goal of China and Russia in expanding the membership of the BRICS and including Egypt, the Emirates, and Saudi Arabia from the Arab region is to defend the frameworks of “multi-polarity” while accepting the practical launch of the global status of the BRICS, not only as a successful economic bloc, but also with its ability to attract dreamers of a “New World” and participating in leading the world, whose most stable basis is change, and this is what China agrees on with Egypt, the Emirates, and Saudi Arabia after they officially joined the BRICS group.
The choices of the six countries invited to join BRICS in 2023, which are “the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Iran, and Argentina”, also confirm the remarkable tendency of the leaders of the group to transform the group from a mere economically effective bloc into a politically and strategically influential entity in shaping (features of a new international order) that confronts American and Western hegemony.
The Chinese Belt and Road Initiative has also created development conditions for the countries of the Global South, including Egypt and all countries of the Arab region. The Belt and Road Initiative improved infrastructure, attracted foreign direct investment, propelled economic growth, accelerated regional and global integration, and strengthened people-to-people exchanges between China and the Arab countries and all countries of the developing Global South, led by China.
China is also actively promoting the establishment of small and impactful enterprises through its Belt and Road Initiative. China has helped build roads, railways, schools, hospitals, and agricultural facilities in alleviating poverty and improving the well-being of people in the Belt and Road Initiative countries, including Egypt, the Arab countries, and the countries of the Global South.
Statistics also showed that the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative helped lift about 40 million people out of poverty in the participating countries of the Global South. It also attracted many investments to those developing countries through China’s development projects there, after China established more than 3,000 projects and provided 420,000 job opportunities for the people of those Arab countries and countries of the South, as a result of China’s development projects through its Belt and Road Initiative.
The Belt and Road Initiative could drive renewable energy adoption across the Global South over the next decade.
The success of China’s Belt and Road Initiative over the past decade is based on its basic principles of (broad consultation, joint contribution, and mutual benefit that drive the achievement of multilateralism as well as fair and just global governance). The Chinese Belt and Road Initiative has formed a new vision for development and global governance, in which open and development-oriented cooperation, multilateral consultation and harmonious coexistence are the basic principles led by China and its ruling Communist Party.
China wants to enhance communication and cooperation with all Arab countries, within multilateral mechanisms such as BRICS, support the international system based on international law, and promote the establishment of a more just and rational global governance system. With Chinese President “Xi Jinping” and President “El-Sisi” emphasizing the importance of a profound transformation from a unipolar world to a multipolar world, where China was a major contributor to Egypt and the countries of the Arab region, China’s influence in the Arab world has grown significantly by building such new communication channels, through Chinese-Arab cooperation frameworks.
Here, cooperation within the framework of the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative extends to approximately 75% of the countries of the world, which deepens the strength of relations and the ease of communication between China and others, initiating communication, finding what is in everyone’s common interest, exchanging goods and services, and discovering what is Common between China and those countries. We have begun to see the results of China’s philosophy of relations not only with respect to other countries but also with regard to global governance in general.
From our previous understanding, Egyptian President “Abdel Fattah El-Sisi” visit to China is receiving attention from Chinese political and economic circles, especially his meeting with Chinese President “Xi Jinping”, which contributes to strengthening Chinese-Egyptian relations and enhancing the joint Chinese-Egyptian vision to raise the voice of the “Global South” by intensifying the establishment and strengthening of all economic and political ties and activities that contribute to strengthening the countries of the South, with China at the heart of them, under the Chinese principle of “the common destiny of humanity”. Hence, President El-Sisi’s participation in the tenth ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, which is hosted by Beijing, as a message from President “El-Sisi” and Cairo of solidarity with China and President “Xi Jinping” to raise the voice of the global South in the face of American and Western policies of hegemony, unilateralism, and unilateralism.
