Chapo secured 94.1 percent of the votes during an extraordinary session of the Frelimo Central Committee on Sunday night, as per Radio Mozambique. President Filipe Nyusi, who is also the Frelimo party leader, presided over three extraordinary sessions of the Central Committee to finalize the selection of the candidate. “We are proud to present Daniel Chapo as the representative of our party in the elections on Oct. 9.

We stand united behind him,” Nyusi stated. Having been born in Sofala province in 1977, Chapo holds a master’s degree in development management from the Catholic University of Mozambique.
