China’s Emerging role in Global Security

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a powerful message emphasizing China's pivotal role in enhancing global security during his address at the 60th Munich Security Conference.

Chinese President, has launched a Global Security Initiative, which was well conceived by the global community and admired a lot. The rise of China has benefited not only the people of China, but many developing countries and underdeveloped countries. Chinese leadership is visionary, smart and wise, understands its global responsibilities. China has launched several initiative benefitting the entire world, including Belt and Road Imitative (BRI), Global Security Imitative (GSI), Global Development Initiatives (GDI), and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI), etc.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered a powerful message emphasizing China’s pivotal role in enhancing global security during his address at the 60th Munich Security Conference. Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressed the importance of cooperation among major countries in promoting global stability.

Contrary to prevailing trends, Wang highlighted that major-country competition should not dominate the current international landscape. Instead, he echoed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s call for enhanced coordination among major nations, especially in turbulent times. Wang emphasized that cooperation, not confrontation, is essential for global prosperity and security.

Acknowledging the 45th anniversary of China-U.S. diplomatic relations, Wang underscored the mutual benefits derived from cooperation between the two nations. He expressed China’s commitment to safeguarding its rights and interests while opposing unjust containment and suppression. Furthermore, Wang referenced the forward-looking “San Francisco vision” outlined during recent discussions between China and the United States, emphasizing mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.

In addressing China’s relationship with Russia, Wang stressed the importance of stable development based on principles of non-alignment, non-confrontation, and non-targeting of third parties. He highlighted the positive impact of this relationship on strategic stability in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Wang also emphasized the significant roles played by China and Europe as major forces, markets, and civilizations in the world. He called for closer China-EU relations, emphasizing mutual benefits and the potential to positively influence global affairs. Urging the elimination of geopolitical and ideological interferences, Wang encouraged both China and Europe to view each other as partners rather than opponents, stressing the importance of jointly addressing global challenges.

During a meeting with French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne at the Munich Security Conference, Wang underscored the historical significance of China-France relations. He expressed China’s willingness to maintain high-level exchanges and enhance cooperation across various sectors. Wang also voiced support for France in hosting a successful Paris Olympics and called for deeper pragmatic cooperation between the two nations.

The dialogue between China and France reflects their shared commitment to building a multipolar world characterized by peace, stability, equality, and order. Both nations recognize their global influence and aim to collaborate effectively to navigate the challenges posed by the resurgence of Cold War mentalities and the risk of bloc confrontation.

In his keynote speech during the “China in the World” session, Wang emphasized China’s commitment to stability in enhancing global governance. He highlighted China’s significant contributions to peacekeeping operations and support for the United Nations’ role in addressing global challenges. Wang reiterated China’s support for revitalizing multilateralism and strengthening solidarity within the international community, emphasizing the importance of upholding the UN Charter’s principles and purposes.

During his last visit to Russia, Chinese President and Russian president were together at the airport for seeing off the visiting Chinese president, an important conversation took place, which may not be very formal, but, possessing high significance. Chinese President told Russian President that in the current century, many changes are going to happen, where China and Russia will navigate the geopolitics jointly. They both agreed for closer cooperation and unlimited friendship and boundless relations.

In recent global affairs, we can see Chinese positive role, either it is brokering Iran-Saudi Arabia peace deal, or its positive efforts in limiting Palestine-Israel confrontation. Its positive role in bringing peace in Afghanistan is also a mega achievement. China is struggling to end the Ukraine war too. China is at front line and proactively trying to bring peace and security in the whole world.

Based on this approach, one in convinced that Chinese role in global politics may increase in the days to come. Chinese balance approach and fair judgment is key to success. It impartial role based on justice is acceptable globally. China always raised voice for oppressed, weaker nations and small countries, especially, who could not protect their rights. Rise of China is a ray of hope and blessings for many small, weaker, underdeveloped, and oppressed nations.
