General elections will take place on 14 May 2023. The Presidential elections will be held to elect the President of Turkey using a two-round system. Simultaneously, parliamentary elections will be held to elect members of parliament to the Grand National Assembly.
The opposition bloc has united around Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the second-biggest party and opposition party in parliament, the Republican People’s Party. Meral Aksener, initially opposed Kilicdaroglu’s candidacy but then she changed her decision.
Erdogan’s AKP has been the ruling party since 2003, and Erdoğan has occupied the presidency since 2014. The elections can be regarded as the country’s most critical voting in decades.
Anti-government campaigns have been initiated as elections approach. Among these campaigns, a visual graphic designer Mahir Akkoyun’s stickers are getting more famous each day getting viral on social media. Akkoyun’s stickers criticize President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan over high costs of living and Akkoyun calls on the people to put these stickers on products. The campaign quickly went viral on social media, with many people posting photos of stickers from stores.
One sticker reads, “Is this product too expensive for you? Thanks to Erdoğan… Keep this in mind when you vote.”
Another sticker with Erdoğan and Bahçeli’s photos reads, “This product is expensive because of us. Keep this in mind when you vote.
In previous days Akkoyun was investigated for “insulting the president” and “disrupting the electoral order”.
