A Palestinian-backed U.N. resolution that could be put to a vote in the Security Council early next week would demand an immediate halt to all Israeli settlement activities, condemn Israeli attempts to annex settlements and outposts, “and call for their immediate reversal.”
Since the creation of the Jewish State in the heart of the Muslim world, the tension kept on growing in the region and spoiling global peace. The Zionists have expansionist designs and kept of occupying Arab lands and pushing Palestinians out of their motherland.
Israeli settlements, or Israeli colonies, are civilian communities inhabited by Israeli citizens, exclusively of Jewish ethnicity, built on lands occupied by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War. The international community considers Israeli settlements to be illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this, and uninterruptedly keeps its policy unilaterally.
Israeli settlements currently exist in the West Bank (including East Jerusalem), claimed by the State of Palestine as its sovereign territory, and in the Golan Heights, widely viewed as Syrian territory. East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights have been effectively annexed by Israel, though the international community has rejected any change of status in both territories and continues to consider each occupied territory. Although the West Bank settlements are on land administered under Israeli military rule rather than civil law, Israeli civil law is “pipelined” into the settlements, such that Israeli citizens living there are treated similarly to those living in Israel.
As of January 2023, there are 144 Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including 12 in East Jerusalem. In addition, there are over 100 Israeli illegal outposts in the West Bank. In total, over 450,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bank excluding East Jerusalem, with an additional 220,000 Jewish settlers residing in East Jerusalem. Additionally, over 25,000 Israeli settlers live in the Golan Heights.
Despite opposition from the global community, Israel has accelerated new settlements. It is an open violation of global ethics, laws, and orders and is considered barbaric action. It is an open violation of human rights and the basic rules of the civilized world. The persistent practices of Israeli barbarisms have upset the international community.
A Palestinian-backed U.N. resolution that could be put to a vote in the Security Council early next week would demand an immediate halt to all Israeli settlement activities, condemn Israeli attempts to annex settlements and outposts, “and call for their immediate reversal.”
In Washington, the State Department said it believed the resolution as drafted was “unhelpful,” but declined to say if it would veto the document or try to water it down to avoid a contentious vote. However, has shown displeasure with Israeli actions and considers it as spoiling global peace. While in Israel late last month, Secretary State Antony Blinken made it clear that the Biden administration would oppose any new settlement expansion or legalization of outposts.
State Department spokesperson Ned Price said that the administration was “deeply troubled” by the announcement. The next day, Blinken condemned the planned settlement construction in a joint statement with his counterparts from France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
Norway, Luxemburg, Denmark, and Finland have rejected in separate statements Israel’s legalization of settlement outposts and the construction of more settlements in the occupied West Bank, warning that this policy could increase tension on the ground.
Arab World and Muslims all over the globe are upset and worried about the peace and security of the region. In this civilized world, no one in full consciousness will accept the atrocities of Israel. All peace-loving nations, countries, and individuals are appealed to raise their voices for the protection of the innocent, helpless, and weak people of Palestine. It is urged that Israel should remain within its original borders of 1948 and return all the occupied Arab lands.
Contrarily, On Sunday, Israel’s security cabinet said it would begin a process to retroactively legalize nine unauthorized Jewish outposts in the West Bank, as well as advance the construction of nearly 10,000 new housing units in established settlements. Israel’s hardline Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir have since doubled down, pledging to further expand settlements on land sought by the Palestinians for a future state.
