A ceasefire came into force in the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Friday morning (21 May 2021) after Egypt brokered an agreement between Israel and Hamas to halt 11 days of the conflict. Israel’s 11 days of barbaric attacks have killed over 250 Palestinians have been killed and thousands injured. One-third are women and innocent children. So far, over 50,000 Palestinians have fled their homes in Gaza. There is limited access to water, food, hygiene, and health services. Hospitals and access to water and sanitation services depend on electricity. Fuel for the power plants has almost run out. Gaza is plunged in darkness: literally and metaphorically.
The International community was outraged and was condemning the Jewish state of Israel for its brutal acts. Many world leaders asked Israel to stop the killings of Palestinian. The UNSC tries its best for a ceasefire but was halted by the US three times. The US aimed to give maximum time to Israel for causing more damages to Palestine. The US was supporting the Israeli aggression and lobbying for Israel and fabricating justifications for brutal acts against Humanity. The US kept supplying the latest, advanced, and lethal weapons to Israel during its attack on Palestine.
Thye America media and its allies were reporting distorted stories and supporting Israeli atrocities against Palestine. Americans and their close allies intentionaly spread fake news, misinformation, and distorted narratives. At the same time, the Palestinians were filming the barbaric attacks by mobile phones every hour, every minute, and live streaming on social media. The World was updated through various channels with the aggressive attacks and causalities and damages caused to Palestine.
There were widespread protests and demonstrations around the globe; almost all World capitals have witnessed the anti-Israel agitations. They were condemning Israeli aggression and were standing in solidarity with Palestine. Even the common public in the US was also protesting and were demanding a ceasefire and stopping the killings of innocent Palestinians.
In fact, the US was exposed completely and may face further isolation in the international community. A similar situation had happened under the President Trump administration when the US supported the shifting of Israeli capital from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. The Vast majority of nations voted against the America-backed motion for supporting the shifting of Capital, with only a few votes in favor. Even the close allies of the US voted against America’s desires or stayed abstained.
President Joe Biden is a well-experienced, mature and sensible personality, and it was not expected from him to behave like President Trump. Very unfortunate! His administration did the same. Anyhow, there are many sensible people in the US. It is an appeal to scholars, intellectuals, think tanks, and politicians to advise the Government in the best possible manner for the right approach and proper policies, correct decision, and timely decisions. The US can not revive its lost position of global leadership without winning the hearts and minds of the masses. The US must give up apartied and bais ideology and rectify its approach to ward international matters under the changed geopolitics.
Post ceasefire, the ruined Gaza need to reconstruct, housed need to rebuild, electricity infrastructure need to reconstruct, and life need to restore. Israeli attacks damaged the only CORONA testing facility, need to reconstruct. Schools, hospitals need to fix.
It all needs resources, financial resources as well as human resources. The international community is appealed to extend full support in restoring Palestine. Significantly, the countries who are responsible for damages, directly or indirectly, need to pay war compensation; further, they need to be trial for war crimes and punished according to international laws. Germany and Japan are still paying compensation for World wars. Agreements in the same lines with Germany and Japan may be initiated for limiting Israel to repeat the same things in the future. There should be restrictions imposed on Israel for its defense craze and capped to ensure its capacity to repeat the same practice in the future. Let the UN lead in demanding similar compensation, where Russia and China can be guarantors.
