Known for refining the art of fusion with its timepieces, luxury Swiss watchmaker Hublot kicks off 2019 with a bang, announcing sought-after local DJ/Producer MYRNE as Singapore’s first Friend of Hublot.

At just 23 years old, MYRNE – whose real name is Manfred Lim – has made waves since his debut in late 2015 and is already a firm fixture on the electronic dance music scene. With a unique blend of R&B, future pop and mainstage energy, he has become the first Singaporean to perform alongside EDM heavyweights at Belgium’s iconic Tomorrowland festival and Ultra Miami in 2018.

Hublot loves music: The story of Hublot & Myrne

Anchored in the present, always evolving, and at the forefront of new advances in technology and fundamental research into new materials, Hublot remains committed to traditional expertise in creating timepieces which bear the mark of the most talented master watchmakers. In this way, the brand represents the Art of Fusion between watchmaking culture and cutting-edge technical developments, connecting both the past and the future, tradition and innovation. In the words of Hublot’s CEO, Mr Ricardo Guadalupe, “We are not breaking with the past. On the contrary, we are paying homage to it by connecting it to the future”.

In a similar vein, MYRNE was classically trained in music from an early age, having been around traditional forms of musical instruments for the better part of his formative years. Since adolescence, he has experimented with traditional indie/rock four-piece bands, and has found his passion in the seamless, limitless world of electronic music. To MYRNE, music is all about pushing the boundaries of communicating through sound and he looks forward to carving out a newer, more distinctive path in his musical career.

This resonates well with Hublot’s spirit of innovation – always looking to the past whilst simultaneously bringing its timepieces into the 21st Century.

Formerly the first and only Asian artist signed to Grammy Award-winning Diplo’s Mad Decent label, the rise of his popularity on streaming platforms Soundcloud and Spotify has seen the rising icon sign a new, exclusive multiple-record deal with Ultra Records this year. The first Singaporean artist to be signed to the hitmaking label, MYRNE once again breaks new ground, breathing fresh air into the global and local dance music scene.

Hublot’s first friend of the brand in Singapore

Sharing what it means for him to join the brand’s big league of international friends, which includes the likes of Brazilian footballer David Luiz, Romanian World Number 1 tennis player Simona Halep and global artist DJ Snake, MYRNE says, “Experimentation is a huge part of my musical DNA and I was incredibly honoured when Hublot approached me to be the brand’s first Friend of Hublot in Singapore. I love that they have a history of constantly challenging norms and daring to be different, and I’m personally a huge fan of their Big Bang Unico Titanium watch which really reflects my personality and career; it’s classic and seemingly unassuming, yet powerful, sleek and full of confidence.”

Mr Michael Tay, Group Managing Director of The Hour Glass, added, “Music is constantly evolving, innovating, and reshaping the world as we know it. MYRNE, a trailblazing Singaporean icon known for pushing the envelope is therefore the perfect fit to be Hublot’s friend of the brand, whose only interest in boundaries extends to those that have yet to be created.”

He continues, “This is part of our longstanding commitment to our partner Hublot, who has been confirming their passion for the arts. From being the first official timekeeper of global music phenomenon Ultra Singapore and the inauguration of our new friend, The Hour Glass is proud to continue advancing Hublot’s love for Music.”

Breitling is celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Patrouille Suisse Swiss Air Force Team, admired around the world for its dazzling aerial performances, with the launch of the Avenger Swiss Air Force Team Limited Edition, produced in a series of 550 pieces.

In 1964, the Swiss Air Force created an aerobatics team, named Patrouille Suisse, made up of some of its most talented pilots. Today, 55 years later, the Patrouille Suisse squadron dazzles audiences with aerial displays in the skies above Switzerland and other European countries with precision performances in six supersonic jets. Breitling has created a new watch to honor these high-flying Swiss ambassadors: the Avenger Swiss Air Force Team Limited Edition.

Georges Kern, the CEO of Breitling, welcomes the opportunity to celebrate the Patrouille Suisse squadron’s anniversary with a limited-edition chronograph. He says: “The Patrouille Suisse Swiss Air Force Team and Breitling make ideal partners. Flying in tight formations in supersonic jets, the Patrouille Suisse squadron is the perfect modern expression of our long aviation tradition. We are excited about the watch we have created to celebrate their 55th anniversary.”

The Breitling Avenger Swiss Air Force Team Limited Edition has a 45 mm stainless-steel case with a ratcheted unidirectional rotating bezel. Its striking black dial features the logo of the Patrouille Suisse squadron on the subdial at 9 o’clock as well as distinctive yellow and red accents that reflect the colors of the Patrouille Suisse squadron’s logo. The yellow-tipped second hand adds another dash of color. The hands and the black indexes are coated with Super-LumiNova®, a luminescent material that makes them easily readable in all lighting conditions. The caseback is engraved with the Patrouille Suisse squadron’s 55th anniversary logo – a stylized 55 and six supersonic jets in flight – along with the words “ONE OF 550”, an indication of its special limited-edition status.

The Avenger Swiss Air Force Team Limited Edition is powered by a Breitling Caliber 13, a COSC-certified chronometer movement with a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. It is water-resistant to 30 bar (300 meters). The special limited-edition Avenger is presented on an anthracite leather military strap with a pin buckle.

The Campaign Revolving around the Patrouille Suisse Swiss Air Force Team

Breitling is proud to present three talented Patrouille Suisse jet pilots to support this anniversary edition. Major Gunnar Jansen joined the Patrouille Suisse Swiss Air Force Team in 2010 and has led the formation for the past three years. Captain Claudius Meier flies in the second position, on the right side of the leader. Captain Lukas Nannini, the second soloist, who flies in the fifth position on the outer left wing, completes the squad.

Breitling

Since 1884, Breitling has established a global reputation for high-precision timepieces, its pioneering role in the development of the wrist chronograph, and its uncompromising commitment to design excellence. With the brand’s storied association with aviation, Breitling has shared the finest moments in humankind’s conquest of the skies. Renowned for its spirit of innovation, it has also earned a place of privilege in the worlds of science, sport, and technology. Breitling manufactures its own movements inhouse and the quality of every watch is confirmed by its status as a COSC-certified chronometer, made in Switzerland.

When a Meteorite Meets High Watchmaking

Jaeger‑LeCoultre presents a new version of the Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3, combining traditional artistic crafts with the rarely seen craft of meteorite inlay.

Encapsulating the core values of La Grande Maison, Jaeger‑LeCoultre presents a new version of the Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3, which marries the technical tour-de-force of its signature multi-axis tourbillon to the finest of artistic craftsmanship.

In 2013, Jaeger‑LeCoultre first introduced the Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 to mark the Maison’s 180th anniversary. Combining a third-generation interpretation of the Gyrotourbillon with an intriguing and highly unusual instantaneous digital display chronograph, it represents mechanical sophistication of the highest order.

But still, Jaeger‑LeCoultre wanted to do more. And so, this new version of Gyrotourbillon 3 harnesses the exceptional skills of the Manufacture’s Rare Handcrafts™ (Métiers Rares®) artisans to elevate the rare and precious timepiece to a new level. With various elements of the dial showcasing the traditional Rare Handcrafts™ of hand-guillochage, engraving and grand feu enamel, this new model introduces the rarely seen craft of meteorite inlay.

On the dial side, the intriguing geometric markings of the silvery-grey meteorite are complemented by the subtle glitter of deep blue aventurine and the glow of pure white grand feu enamel. This harmonious interplay of materials, colour and surface pattern is complemented by the warmth and richness of the pink gold case and dial details.

Found in Namibia, the Gibeon meteorite chosen for this watch is an iron-nickel alloy with an octahedrite crystal structure, formed by the cooling of the asteroid fragment in outer space over the course of billions of years before it crashed to earth in prehistoric times. The abstract geometric patterns of the intersecting crystal structures shimmer gently when the material catches the light, their irregular arrangement making every slice of meteorite subtly different from all others.

In addition to the meteorite inlaid on the German silver bridges, a disc of meteorite sits at the centre of the time display dial, surrounded by a ring of aventurine with applied indexes. On the chronograph display, an aventurine disc is encircled by a ring of white grand feu enamel, marked with elapsed seconds. The Day/Night display comprises a 24-hour plate on which two gold semi-circles are applied, one each for day and night. The white day section is decorated with hand-guilloché, hand-engraved sunrays and an applied polished pink gold sun; the night section features applied polished pink gold crescent moon and stars, set on a rich blue background.

Asymmetrical yet perfectly balanced, these three overlapping dials are layered, adding visual depth to the watch face – and, despite tempting glimpses of the movement, drawing the eye irresistibly to the tourbillon as it spins in space, with no immediately visible means of support.

It is on the back of the movement that the meteorite truly takes centre stage. A lively yet subtle mixture of colour and texture – blued screws, ruby jewels, the shiny aspect of the hand-chamfered and hand-polished jewel countersinks, bridges and plates, and the matt finish of the brushed borders of the German silver plates – offsets the abstract geometric patterns of the meteorite, which adorns all of the plates and bridges.

A skill mastered by very few craftsmen in the world, meteorite inlay requires a rare degree of precision and dexterity. First, the artisan must hollow out the surface of the German silver plate or bridge, to a depth that exactly matches the thickness of the meteorite fragment, leaving only a fine fillet of German silver at the borders. Once the new surface has been polished, the meteorite must be laid so that its edges fit seamlessly within the complex, curving borders and its surface lies exactly flush with them, to form a completely flat and unified plane. It is work of the utmost refinement and precision, measured in fractions of a millimetre.

Such exacting work complements the remarkable precision of the Gyrotourbillon mechanism. Exceedingly rare and complex, this multi-axis tourbillon comprises two cages, set at two different angles, turning opposite directions, at different speeds, with a blued spherical balance spring beating like a heart in their centre. In the absence of a tourbillon bridge, the cantilevered all-aluminium cages of Gyrotourbillon 3 appear to be suspended in space.

Hand-wound movement, calibre 176, incorporates a fully integrated chronograph, which displays the seconds on a traditional round dial and elapsed minutes on an instantaneously jumping digital counter.

Conceived and crafted for true connoisseurs of art and mechanics, the new Master Grande Tradition Gyrotourbillon 3 ‘Meteorite’ represents the highest expression of Jaeger‑LeCoultre’s codes.
