Recreating geopolitical view of the media with the death of Khashoggi

McLuhan in his book “To understand the media” said: “Archimedes has said,” Show me a point of reference in the world so that I can shake the world “. McLuhan believes that if Archimedes was alive today, he would surely point our media with his finger, saying, “I use your eyes, ears, organs, and brains as a reliance point, and move the world as I wish “.

Perhaps simply the above statement reflects the high power and importance of the media in the present era. Because the media can, as they wish, and their goal, represents the world and the realities for us. A simple example in this regard is the issue of the death of a journalist and correspondent of Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia. Maybe we have seen fewer media in recent days that have not addressed this discussion and analysis, and attempt to overtake each other to reflect and cover this news and analyzes. As a matter of fact, the lives of humans have high importance, and the response to the death of humans is morally important.

But the point is how to deal with the value and importance of the death of humans by the media. As a result, during the recent years, Saudi Arabia’s military involvement in the Yemeni nation has been killed a lot of people and child victims are obviously of this overwhelming. But the coverage and reflection of this issue are quite marginal, and many media do not pay attention to this issue. The question arises as to whether the blood of Khashoggi was more colorful than the blood of these innocent children?

Of course, the answer is negative, but what has caused the media’s reaction to these issues to become similar and different. It should be noted that the media is in the hands of the actors in shaping the thoughts and representing the facts as they please, as a means to achieve the desired goals. To an extent, the players in this field are capable of being able to be better and more effectively provide a significant field for power and success in different fields and can expel competitors from the field of competition, oblige to obey and achieve their goals. This has led the media as a geographic source of power with an artificial nature shaping the geopolitical topic of the media. This tendency can be defined as follows: The geopolitics of media is the knowledge of the acquisition, exploitation, and preservation of the media as a new (geographic) source of power in local, national, regional and global relations. In the other words, the exploitation and use of the media and its associated capacities as the new geographic resource of power for the achievement of goals in the local, national, regional and global relations are referred to as geopolitics of the media.

On this basis, with considering the geopolitical debate of the media, it is possible to understand the coloring of the bloody passionate to the blood of the innocent Yemeni children. Because media managers and supporters have different interests and goals for killing Khashoggi, that are different from the goals and interests of killing children in Yemen. These different goals and interests require a different representation for reactions and support, which can easily be understood in the last days of this type of representation.
