The Latest Follies of the Trump Administration

[yt_dropcap type=”square” font=”” size=”14″ color=”#000″ background=”#fff” ] T [/yt_dropcap]here is a point at which you cross over from the normal to the abnormal which then begins to appear as the new normal. The place has de facto become a Fellini circus but nobody is aware of it since it is the new normal in many people’s perception. That point may have already been reached.

Here are a few examples: office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney, who had insisted the fiscal 2017 omnibus appropriation had to include funding for the wall and take away funds from sanctuary cities that didn’t follow Trump administration’s preferences, last week announced that the bill was a huge win even though it included neither of these things.

At that same press conference, Mulvaney criticized congressional democrats for spiking the football when they celebrated the 2017 omnibus appropriation. He then spiked the ball for the Trump administration by vehemently insisting that the White House deserved credit for everything in the bill.

Later Trump did an end zone dance of his own when he and House Republicans celebrated passing legislation to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. Supposedly it is no longer Obama-care but Trump-care. They did this even though they knew Senate Republicans weren’t going to consider it and that the House-passed bill has virtually no chance of being enacted. The Senate GOP leadership made that publicly clear shortly after the end zone celebration had ended. In effect Obama-care is still the law of the land but House Republicans are still celebrating and clowning under the Circus’s tent.

Moreover, the Trump administration supported an ACA repeal and replace bill that penalizes people with pre-existing conditions the same week that it moved to kill healthy eating requirements for schools kids that will make it more likely they will have pre-existing conditions. In logic this is called unhinged thinking. In psychology it is called unhinged behavior characterized by extreme flexibility and malleability with the facts and the truth of a situation, when yes is no, no is yes, and one is always a winner even when one is the biggest loser.

It’s the new normal, folks. The circus goes on daily. How does the song go? “Bring in the clowns.”
