Calls for European Consciousness

In an effort to live in Europe of 21st century, miles away of political oppression and dark ages of human rights, refugees cross, daily in adverse conditions, the Mediterranean in order to escape from the war in the Middle East and sub-Saharan regions of Africa.

However, hundreds of people, looking for a new life, during the last days, have drowned in the Mediterranean. The intensity of war in their own countries pushes refugees in the decision to cross by any means the Mediterranean to reach Europe.

During the last week, two other tragic shipwrecks took place in Mediterranean. Today Europe in an effort to manage the political and social consequences of the unjust death of so many people, asked to answer questions about the protection of human lives within European borders. Now, it is a matter of human survival and thus of necessitating the design of a policy so that Europe and the international community to prevent such tragedies in the sea.

The political management of the problem in Europe, as it is structured today, has a distinct structure. From one side, there are the governments of the Southern European countries and on the other side; there are the governments of the rest of Europe, which are the core of decision-making. Greece, Italy and Southern France are the first destination for refugees. The swell of the problem in these countries is an additional European political issue that must be handled in order further social and economic problems to be prevented.

Italian Prime Minister, Mateo Renzi, has asked the European and international community, to convene Summit to discuss this important issue and to take immense and strict decisions. At the policy level management, migration policy in Europe planned alongside the economic crisis that Europe is experiencing.

The management of human resources, arriving on the southern border of Europe, is a part of the overall social and economic policy in Europe right now.

This situation imposes the tightening of controls in the Mediterranean of European forces in order to initially detect and prevent criminal shipwrecks. It is further required European and international assistance detect smugglers of refugees.

It is importantly required the organized reception of refugees on the southern border of Europe, the control and the total contribution of refugees in order they to evenly diffused throughout Europe. Immigration policy, the time when Europe is facing serious economic problems, unemployment, debt crisis and social problems of racism and xenophobia, is an issue that requires coherent and comprehensive response. Immigration policy requires its perfect integration into the broad EU policy agenda. While the overall international community delays in setting up an effective and faceted immigration policy, the Mediterranean will continue to be a place of shipwrecks, of a place of losing the hope.

Immediate political awareness and political will would bring the refugee to the center of the under discussion issue. While formal policy delays, hope monopoly is in the power of the traffickers. This means deterioration of crime and degradation of human life. The social security requires the protection of the refugees. Immigration policy should display dynamic and will power, so the global security to be undisturbed and “peaced”.

Facing the new century as a European, having social inputs and social rights, encouraging innovation and asking for more political trust, constitute a close, sided word political perspective that isolates people that are in danger and ask for help and It is incompatible with the fact that, almost in a daily basis, people coming from war and political oppression, drowned in the Mediterranean.
