The exceptional geographical situation makes Pakistan a real gateway between South Asia and East Asia, and the actual hub of business activities in the region. The fact this position not merely confined with the CPEC but already extant, however, together with the Corridor project it will further facilitate the smooth connectivity between South and East Asia. This geographical situation gives Pakistan a central position in terms of increased regional connectivity.

The constant efforts for an enduring peace in Afghanistan essential for the long term and plausible peace for the people has always been a collective effort of the Afghan government and the international community. The chaos and the conflict in Afghanistan is tried to be overcome through a political process by engaging the Afghan Taliban and the government in a series of negotiations.

The Gwadar Port project has an exceptionally important function not only for Pakistan but also for the rest of the region. Notably, the Chinese government has paid the bulk of the funds for the project execution. The state owned Frontier Works Organization (FWO) of Pakistan got financial support of $360 million from China for the expansion and up gradation of the Karakoram Highway in order to smooth and speedy transportation of the imported and exported goods through the Gwadar Port.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the formation of the Central Asia Republics (CARs), the countries with their huge economic potential have been less explored foreign policy options of Pakistan. Despite the fact that being located in the same region and exceptionally sharing common characteristics, the geo-political and geo-economic importance of Pakistan and CARs could naturally stimulate the two sides to reach out to each though.

Pakistan has been a constant ardent to augment its relationship with the countries in the Central Asian region. The warmth of pursuing such foreign policy is particularly inspired with the historic experiences of non-interference and the mutual respect for each other’s views on different regional and international issues.

The One-Belt One-Road initiative has significantly come up with the manifold opportunities enabling China to connect with the rest of the region through the railway and road networks. Particularly, in the aftermath of lifting sanctions from Iran, the cargo train started the ride to transport the business good from the Yiwu town of eastern China and arrived in Tehran on the 15 February 2016.

The recent Heart of Asia Conference-Istanbul Process was an attempt to bridge the existing gap between the Asian partners and the stakeholders with the greater objectivity for the attainment of regional peace and development goals.
