The Zapad 2017 exercise will begin on September 14, 2017.  It will be carried out jointly by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and Belarus, as well as by other smaller allies.It will be a technical test to check the full interoperability between the Armed Forces of Russia, Belarus and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), namely Kazakhstan, Armenia, the above mentioned  Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

This past week the United States informed the Russian Federation that it was going to immediately close the Russian consulate in San Francisco as well as two other properties that house trade missions in Washington DC and New York City, respectively. The Russian Foreign Ministry was told this was a tit-for-tat response to the maneuver done earlier in the summer when Russia literally evicted nearly half of the diplomatic and technical corps of the United States, dropping its number down to 455.

The high level individuals leaving the Trump administration must be a record.  Eleven since the end of January averaging out to almost two per month.  The latest Mr. Anthony Scaramucci now holds a record of sorts as the shortest serving White House communications director in history.  He was in office exactly ten days when the White House Chief of Staff, General John Kelly --  himself a new hire -- fired him on Monday.

.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson arrived in the Russian capital Moscow on Wednesday, April 12 for talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. On the top of their agenda will be bilateral relations as well as the situation in Ukraine, Syria and the Middle East as well as North Korea. The two permanent UN Security Council members may, as counter-intuitive as it may seem for those who limit their analysis to propaganda, both benefit from a well-managed policy of tensions.

Without a mirror there is no Narcissus. Without the media there is no Trump. All his life he has had an indispensable relation with the Media, beginning with the times when he would call anonymously disguised as a public relation man to promote himself. The media is Trump’s necessary mirror.
